The Gherkin in Glass

Walking through London, I looked up at the Gherkin — one of the city’s most iconic
modern buildings. My son is an architect, so I’ve always had a soft spot for architecture
photography, and this one immediately caught my eye.

The sky was the kind of gray you expect in London, heavy and moody, but the light cut
through just enough to illuminate the glass. The building reflected its surroundings
perfectly, like a mirror holding the city inside it. I stopped right there, framed the shot,
and captured the balance of old and new — modern design rising above historic stone.
