Reflective Calm – Forest Lake in the Alps

Tucked into the forests below the mighty Sciliar massif, we found ourselves at Völser
Weiher — a small, enchanting alpine lake that feels worlds away from the busier
Dolomite valleys. The water lay still, mirroring the tall pines that ringed its edges, while
heavy clouds rolled across the sky, adding a sense of quiet drama to the scene.

Unlike the grand, glacial lakes that often steal the spotlight, Völser Weiher has an
intimacy about it. It’s a place where locals come to swim on warm days, where benches
hide beneath the trees, and where time seems to slow down. Standing at its edge,
watching reflections ripple across the green surface, I felt the kind of calm that only
these tucked-away corners of the Dolomites can bring.
