Over the Atlantic

We were on a red-eye flight from Philadelphia to London, headed for an adventure
hiking in the Scottish Highlands. I had drifted into a restless airplane sleep, dreaming of
sheep dotting green hillsides, when something stirred me awake. You know how it is on
a plane—you can never quite get comfortable, and eventually, something nudges you
out of slumber.

Sitting by the window, I lifted the shade and was greeted with this breathtaking view: the
very first light of sunrise spilling across the Atlantic, painting the clouds in soft hues of
pink, orange, and violet. The airplane wing stretched out into the glowing horizon, a
quiet reminder of how small we are against the vastness of sky and sea.
