Hummingbird Among Red Blooms

Hummingbirds only visit here for one short month each year, and I always wait for their arrival with excitement. Their speed makes them almost impossible to capture — they dart in and out so quickly that most attempts end in frustration.

I set myself up near the flowers in my neighbor’s garden, knowing the birds would come for their nectar. They zipped around me in a blur, and I thought I had missed my chance again. But then, one hovered in perfect light, suspended between blooms just long enough for me to focus. With my heart racing, I snapped the shot — and in that fleeting pause, I caught the elegance of a bird that rarely gives you more than a second.
