Eastern Bluebird on Fence Post

Each year, Eastern Bluebirds make their long journey back from their wintering grounds, arriving in late February and early March. By early April, these little flashes of sky-blue begin their nesting season, filling open fields and quiet edges of parks with their soft songs.

One crisp morning, while walking my dogs through the more remote part of our community park, I rounded a corner and caught a glimpse of something bright out of the corner of my eye. To my surprise, it wasn’t just a trick of light—it was an Eastern Bluebird perched on a fence post, basking in the sun.

There I was, juggling two eager dogs on their leashes, fumbling for my camera, hoping to capture the moment before the bird took flight. Somehow, the bluebird lingered long enough for me to take the shot—a fleeting reminder of spring’s return and the resilience of migration.
